What’s the Role About?

Scantime is a family-run training provider on a mission to establish a recognised standard in PLC and industrial automation training across the UK. We work with some of the country’s leading manufacturers, engineers, and technical teams, and we’re proud of the reputation we’ve built through quality, integrity, and genuine expertise.

We don’t discount, and we don’t chase volume at the expense of value, we believe our courses speak for themselves, and we’re looking for someone who believes that too, and can help more of the right people find us.

As our Commercial Growth Manager, you’ll sit right at the heart of a business that’s growing with purpose. Your job is to raise Scantime’s profile, build relationships with the right organisations, and turn awareness into long-term partnerships. This isn’t a hard-sell environment, it’s a consultative, trust-led role for someone who leads with knowledge and earns business through credibility. And to be clear, it’s a salaried role with no commission structure: we pay well because we value people, not because we want anyone’s income riding on closing tactics.

What You’ll Be Doing

A lot of your week will be about growth and awareness, spotting new business opportunities across the industries we want to reach, and engaging the right prospects through calls, emails, LinkedIn, events, and whatever channel fits the moment. You’ll grow and host our networking forums, put together tailored, consultative pitches and proposals, and keep an active pipeline moving with consistent, considered follow-up. Alongside that, you’ll be developing the market itself: researching and mapping the sectors where Scantime can expand:

  • Manufacturing
  • Distribution
  • Engineering services, and beyond

Getting under the skin of client challenges so you can position our training as a real solution rather than a commodity, and keeping an ear to the ground on industry trends and emerging skills gaps so our programmes stay ahead of what the sector needs.

At the core of it all is relationship management. You’ll build long-term relationships founded on trust and a genuine understanding of what clients actually need, act as a knowledgeable advocate for our programmes, and represent Scantime out in the world at networking events, trade shows, and conferences, always making sure the client experience is excellent from first contact onwards. None of this happens in isolation, so you’ll work closely with our marketing team to drive awareness and quality leads, feed client and industry insight back to our trainers and course developers, and collaborate with management on proposals, business models, and growth strategy. And because we like to make decisions on evidence, you’ll keep accurate CRM records, produce regular reports on KPIs, pipeline, and revenue growth, and use that data and insight to keep sharpening your approach.

What Makes You a Great Fit?

You’ll bring a proven B2B business development or sales track record, ideally in training, technical education, or engineering and automation, along with a solid understanding of industrial automation, PLCs, or manufacturing (or a genuine enthusiasm to develop it). You’re an excellent communicator who’s comfortable engaging with people at every level, and you take a consultative, relationship-first approach rather than reaching for the hard sell. You’re self-motivated, able to work autonomously, and you do it all with integrity. On the practical side, you’re confident with CRM systems and Microsoft Office, and you hold a full UK driving licence. You’ll be an even stronger fit if you’ve sold training or technical skills programmes before, already have a network in sectors like manufacturing, utilities, oil & gas, or food & beverage, or you’ve worked with Pipedrive or a similar CRM. And it’s worth repeating: this role doesn’t include commission or OTE. We offer a strong, stable salary because that’s simply how we like to operate, fairly, transparently, and without shortcuts.
